The Barr Foundation is a private foundation committed to enhancing the quality of life for all of Boston’s citizens.The Barr Foundation's primary areas of emphasis are education and the environment, they also provide support to arts and cultural activities. Their work focuses on three critical challenges to Boston:
Providing Quality Education. The major emphasis is on the Boston Public School system, schools of excellence, early education and after school programs.
Making a More Livable City. They concentrate on increasing the quality and quantity of open space and water resources, developing environmental citizenship, supporting environmental justice, as well as facilitating regional development planning and urban design.
Enhancing Cultural Vitality. Focus is on cultural projects that enhance their educational or environmental goals, support major and mid-sized institutions, promote diversity, or foster civic engagement and community cohesion.
In addition to these three areas of strategic community engagement, the Barr Foundation devotes a small portion of iving through their Annual Community Support program—to a broad array of organizations that make a positive contribution to the quality of life in our city.
Examples of grants include: Boston Youth Sports Coordinator $1,000,000 over 3 years; Boston Girls' Sports and Physical Acvitiy Project $800,000 over 3 years; Sports Space $525,000 over 3 years. |
