Request for Proposals for AmeriCorps*VISTA Members

Up2Us is pleased to offer a limited number of AmeriCorps*VISTA placements to Up2Us members through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service. For a full year, VISTAs work full-time in a host organization to build capacity in nonprofits to assist in bringing individuals and communities out of poverty. Through this RFP, Up2Us is seeking proposals from Up2Us members for the Fall 2012 through Fall 2013 program year. Proposals are due on February 24th, 2012.

Promoting Inclusion of Children with Disabilities, BOSTnet

Monday, March 5, 2012 - 8:30am - 2:00pm

Special focus on diverse learners, students with behavior or emotional issues, homelessness or trauma

Cost: FREE.FREE.FREE

This training will earn you 5 EEC hours and .5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Must Register by March 1, 2012
Background and history on:
- Inclusion vs. exclusion
- Survivors of trauma, abuse, and homelessness
- Common emotional/behavioral disabilities & challenges
- Concrete strategies to support children with any of the above challenges
- Cultural perspectives and etiquette on inclusion
- Creating a shift in program culture towards inclusion

Successful Grant Writing, from A to Z, UMass Boston

Writing a proposal is only one crucial part of a much larger process—namely, how to build and sustain successful, long-term relationships with foundations.

Students will learn both short- and long-term skills, including how to:
identify "fundable" ideas
identify and vet foundation prospects
develop customized strategies for approaching specific foundations
structure and write letters of inquiry
draft a proposal and budget
work with others in their organizations to build ongoing, highly productive, and sustained relationships with foundations

The mission of the AMC’s Youth Opportunities Program (YOP) is to make the outdoors accessible and meaningful to urban and at-risk youth. YOP operates as a resource center for youth agencies throughout the Northeast, teaching youth workers the skills they need to independently take their youth outdoors.

AMC's Mountain Leadership School (MLS) is a five-day wilderness leadership training program designed to help you lead groups with minimal impact in the backcountry. Now in its 6th decade, this program is staffed by senior AMC volunteers who have a wide variety of backcountry knowledge and experience.
